Interview scorecards

What is an interview scorecard?

An interview scorecard is a form every interviewer fills in for the same role, scoring the same competencies on the same rating scale and writing down the evidence behind each score. It replaces "I liked them" with something two people can compare. Used well, it is filled in during or straight after the interview, before anyone hears what the rest of the panel thought.

The anatomy

What an interview scorecard should include

Five parts, and a scorecard missing any of them tends to collapse back into opinion.

The generator above builds all five.

Just choose your role, competencies and rating scale, and get a ready-to-use scorecard in minutes.

Build yours now
01Competencies
Four to six things you score every candidate on, each one observable in the interview. "Problem solving" works. "Culture fit" does not, because two interviewers will score it on different evidence.
Focus on what you can observe.
02A rating scale with anchors
Use the same 1 to 5 (or similar) for everyone, with a written meaning for each number. Anchors are what stop one interviewer’s 4 being another’s 2.
Same scale. Same meaning.
03Evidence, not just a number
A box beside each score for what the candidate actually said or did. This is the part a debrief runs on, and the part people skip.
Write the evidence behind the score.
04An overall recommendation
One explicit call at the end. Scores that never resolve into a recommendation let a panel avoid deciding.
Turn scores into a clear decision.
05Who, when and which round
A screening scorecard and a final-round scorecard are not comparable. Naming the round keeps you from averaging two different questions.
Right scorecard for the right round.

The argument

Why a structured scorecard changes the decision

A structured scorecard brings consistency, fairness and better conversations. It helps your team focus on evidence, not impressions.

Without a shared scorecard

Different questions. Different opinions.

Unstructured interviews drift. Two interviewers ask a candidate different questions, form different impressions, and then meet to compare things that were never the same thing. Whoever speaks first, or loudest, tends to set the group’s view.

With one

A clearer, fairer decision.

A scorecard fixes what is being judged before anyone walks into the room, so the panel compares like with like. Each interviewer records evidence against the same competencies, which turns a disagreement into a specific one. You both scored communication, you saw different things, and each of you can say what you heard. That is a conversation, not a clash of impressions.

It also travels. A scorecard filled in properly is a record of why a decision was made, readable months later by someone who was not there, which is what you want when a hire works out and you would like to do it again.

Questions about the generator

If yours is not here, ask it. Yohan answers these himself.

Ask a question
Is the interview scorecard generator free?

Yes, and there is no Panelynx account, no trial and no card. You give a work email so we can send the PDF, and that is the whole exchange.

How do I get my scorecard?

By email, as a fillable PDF. It is not a download link. The file arrives in your inbox, usually within a couple of minutes, and it is yours to print, fill in on screen or forward to the rest of the panel.

Can I use the scorecard without Panelynx?

Yes. It is an ordinary PDF and it works on paper, on screen, or pasted into whatever your team already uses. Nothing in it depends on the product.

Can I choose my own competencies and rating labels?

Both. Type your own competencies, or start from the default set and edit it. The rating scale can stay on the Panelynx 1 to 5 anchors or be replaced with your own labels.

Does it write interview questions for me?

No. The generated sheet carries competencies, the scale and the evidence fields. That is the scoring frame, not the interview itself. Question sets, question banks and AI-drafted questions live inside the product.

Is one scorecard enough for the whole panel?

Each interviewer needs their own copy. The point of scoring independently is that you form a view before you hear anyone else’s, so one shared sheet defeats the exercise. Generate once and send it to everyone.
